The hands behind the work

Meet Lisa

An artist at heart, a lover of fabric and furniture, and a craftsperson grounded in traditional upholstery.

Lisa at her Upper Moutere studio

Artistry, engineering and a respect for every piece

Boho Velvet Upholstery is the creative studio of Lisa in Upper Moutere, Nelson.

With a strong love of furniture, fabric and traditional craftsmanship, Lisa brings new life to old pieces using careful upholstery techniques and an artisan eye.

Her work is grounded in traditional upholstery methods wherever possible, combining practical skill with creativity and design. From reviving tired furniture to transforming dated pieces into striking one-offs, each project is approached with care, intention and respect for the original piece.

“Furniture can be repaired, renewed and reimagined — becoming both useful and beautiful again.”

Traditional materials and techniques sit at the heart of the work: sculpting fibres, rebuilding foundations, selecting the right fabrics and finishing each detail by hand.

Occasional small classes are also held in the studio, sharing the craft in a relaxed, hands-on setting.
